11.11 Controversial Sales Figures
In recent years, the Alibaba Group has successfully transformed "Singles Day" to the biggest online shopping festival on the planet. This year Tmall and Taobao sales figures soared again. With a total 91.2 billion RMB ($14.32 billion) of goods sold and a 60% growth compared to 2014, there are now whisperings of doubt behind these numbers. Some reports hint at a return rate of this year's merchandise to be as high as 64% citing that Alibaba's numbers are preliminary and unaudited. While no one can really ascertain what the return rate this year will be, one number remains authoritative: 68% of the total value of transactions was through orders from mobile devices.
